Pour son premier match de poule aux PSA World Tour Finals, Victor Crouin s’est incliné face à Mostafa Asal, mais pourra s’appuyer sur sa belle fin de match pour tenter de rebondir ce soir face à Mazen Hesham.
➡ Dans le premier jeu, le Français (n°7 mondial) a été dépassé par la puissance du double tenant du titre (n°4), notamment sur les frappes croisées de ce dernier. Changement total de physionomie à partir du milieu de la deuxième manche : beaucoup plus agressif et utilisant à merveille ses deux « Power Plays, » Victor passe de 3-6 à 7-6 en deux échanges, mais l’Égyptien va néanmoins parvenir à conclure.
Le Mot de Fram
A noter une balle que Asal prétend bonne, mais qui se révèle être faute au ralenti. Décision “overturned”. Une discussion entre les deux joueurs suivra, animée… Et chacun d’eux écopera d’un “warning” pour “perte de temps de jeu”. Mais une belle fin de match pour les deux adversaires qui se sont habillés pour l’hiver sur les réseaux sociaux. Comme quoi, on peut espérer que l’Egyptien est en train de changer – il a fini son interview d’après-match en enscensant le Français…

Même si une défaite ne serait peut-être pas synonyme d’élimination (en fonction du score, et du résultat du match Elias – Asal), Victor Crouin devra battre Mazen Hesham ce soir pour préserver ses chances de qualification pour le dernier carré.

“I hit the shot in the second game and he was smiling at me straight away. I saw it come out of the nick and when he smiled I thought there was something wrong, so I thought it was up. There was a discussion, he said it was down but my coach and the front row said it was alright.
“My coach realised there was something and then we weren’t sure, the referee wasn’t sure either. It was a bit controversial but the match was okay at the end. We played in a good spirit in the beginning and my speech at the end was about stopping this right now.
“It was maybe something immature from me, I was also speaking about him after matches and it wasn’t that good. We’re the same generation and we’re going to lead this sport in the future.
“All respect to Victor, it’s his first ever World Tour Finals this year and it’s something he should be proud of.”
