“I’m very happy to have won, it was a big match and I expected it to be.

“It seemed like there were long rallies and we were both running a lot trying to find our targets at the back and she did really well with her lobbing and having me in the back. I was trying be more in front of her.

“She had a bit of a low in the fourth after serving out and I thought that was my chance and I was happy to win it quite comfortably. It’s funny because I was wondering if I was going to change the ball and she actually asked before me. In the last game, even though I was quite in front, I was a bit worried that she would come back, so I was trying to really stay focused.”

Si Grégoire joue demain, aujourd’hui, c’est le jour de nos dames… Camille ne devrait pas avoir trop de soucis contre la Belge Nele Gilis, dont la force vient de sa condition physique plus particulièrement et de sa détermination sans faille. Mais elle est tout à fait capable de mettre notre Cam sous pression surtout après une grande pause de compétition de haut niveau.

Pour Coline, si la bataille s’annonce rude, elle sait qu’elle peut battre Glamour Salma, car lors de leur dernière rencontre au Caire en mars dans le BBOpen, la française s’était imposée 3/2 aux termes d’un gros match de 70mn. J’espère simplement qu’elle ne se mettra pas trop la pression – fais nous du beau squash ma belle, le reste suivra…

Cette semaine, le Tour PSA faisait sa rentrée avec l’Open de Manchester. Malgré toutes les nouvelles procédures mises en place, j’étais impatient de jouer à nouveau sur la scène internationale et de mettre à profit tout le travail effectué depuis mi-mars.

Malheureusement, j’ai dû m’incliner hier contre l’anglais Declan James en 5 jeux (11/4 – 9/11 – 10/12 – 11/5 – 10/12). Encore ce matin, le résultat est difficile à avaler. J’ai eu toutes les opportunités pour remporter ce match, j’ai dominé pendant la plupart des jeux et j’ai fini le match bien moins entamé que mon adversaire sur le plan physique. Cependant, je n’ai pas su gérer les fins de jeu intelligemment, poussé par un manque de lucidité et de calme.
Retour à la maison dès aujourd’hui. Je vais prendre le week-end pour analyser ce match, en sortir les leçons et repartir à l’entraînement convaincu du travail à effectuer pour convertir ce match en une victoire la prochaine fois.
Merci à tous ceux qui ont suivi le match en streaming, cela fait vraiment plaisir de savoir que tant de personnes sont derrière leurs écrans pour m’encourager et vivre le match avec moi. Merci à tous pour vos messages.

“I knew it was going to be a tricky match, so I’m very happy to be through,”

“There’s many challenges. First of all it’s a different glass court, compared to the one we train on in Paris, few funny bounces, but I guess it’s the same for both of us. It’s really hot as well, so it’s tough to not be able to wipe our hands. The biggest challenge was to find the targets in the back of the court and I think that was the key in the match.

“I’m nothing thinking about it [being the top seed], I’m more excited to play again, as everyone said it’s special conditions, but I talked a lot about it with my mental coach to be ready to play this tournament and I’m not really thinking about being seed No.1. I’m just happy to be back and battling again at a PSA tournament.

“The whole lockdown has had an impact on everybody, but we don’t really see it until now. All players are happy to be back on tour and many people have been telling us that they’re happy to watch us on SquashTV again.”

De très nombreux français dans le tableau, avec Camille Serme en tête de série un – pas de pression DU TOUT pour le retour à la compétition

Ensuite, par ordre du tableau chez les hommes, nous avons Baptiste Masotti, Lucas Serme, Victor Crouin, Mathieu Castagnet et Grégoire Marche. Comme vous le voyez, du beau monde.

Pour ces dames, nous aurons donc Cam, Melissa Alves, Coline Aumard et Enora Villard. Notre belle équipe de France est donc au complet…
