Le Mot de Victor (sur Facebook)

“The ETC is a tournament that I always look forward to playing. Being part of a team is always special, and even more when I get a chance to represent my country. Team competitions are a tricky excercise because every player has his way of doing things – especially in an individual sport like ours – yet we must adapt to the environment and come together in order to work towards the same goal. As a result, it’s always a week filled with a rollercoaster of emotions.

Well, it’s another disappointing end to the tournament, finishing runner-up behind England after another close final. It was a fierce battle, intense from the start and certainly ugly at times, and the truth is that we must have done better to win.

On a personal note, it wasn’t a great week in terms of results. 2 W for 3 L is disappointing. I am fortunate to have a solid team to back me up but I hope I’ll be able to be more reliable and more consistent in this competition in the near future.

Having said that, I learnt a ton on the mental side, having explored the whole spectrum of emotions this week from calmness to aggressiveness. I realized that an emotion is fundamentally neither good nor bad. It’s rather what you do with it – its effect on your performance – that will make it a positive or negative one. And mindfulness is the key to controlling these emotions.

Now heading back to Cairo, Egypt for the World Individual Championship that starts next Thursday. Looking forward to bouncing back from my recent performances 👊

Thanks to everybody that is part of the French team for the support and shared experience. Congrats @toufik_mekhalfi again on your first cap this week & @thierry_lincou for accepting to sub in as head coach 🇫🇷 We’ll be back stronger
